From the Chair
As we enter the last quarter of the academic year, the UMMC Department of Dermatology remains strong and continues to grow in all three mission areas. We continue to provide quality patient care while expanding access to new patients. We are proud to congratulate Dr. Robert Brodell who was recently awarded the Dermatology Foundation Practitioner of the Year for the quality of his dermatologic practice and service! We also look to the future as ground has been broken at the UMMC Colony Park in Ridgeland where we will have expanded clinical space for Mohs surgery, cosmetics, patch testing, and general dermatology.
In the area of research, we continue to grow our clinical trials unit, and Drs. Thy Huynh and Vinny Nahar continue to bring national recognition to UMMC through their work. Our education mission also remains strong under the leadership of Drs. Nancye McCowan, Allison Cruise, and Chelsea Mockbee. Our residency program continues to receive accreditation without citations, and we just had an outstanding residency match in March! Our rural dermatology program continues to receive national recognition and there are now several programs following the UMMC model for rural dermatology. Speaking of rural dermatology, we welcome Dr. Adam Byrd back after his four-month deployment to Kuwait with the National Guard. We are grateful for Dr. Byrd’s service!
Our department is thriving, and I am more optimistic about the future of UMMC Dermatology than I ever have been. This success would never be possible without the work of so many. We truly have a great team, and I am so thankful for members of our department, our alumni, and other friends of UMMC Dermatology. Each of you have played a role in expanding dermatologic care to the people of Mississippi. We still have a lot of work to do, and I hope you continue to join us on this journey!
